Balcombe Place is a Grade II* listed country house built in 1856, reached along a private drive outside the village of Balcombe in West Sussex. It is part of the 3,500-acre Balcombe Estate in the High Weald, with formal gardens, lawns and views towards the South Downs. Weddings are exclusive use, and the house takes one wedding a week.
The house has six reception rooms. Civil ceremonies are usually held in the Drawing Room, licensed for 100 guests, in front of its carved marble fireplace, and couples can also marry outdoors on the front lawn. Up to 130 guests can be seated across the Music Room and Billiard Room, up to 350 with a marquee on the lawn, and up to 250 can party in the house. Fourteen en-suite bedrooms sleep up to 28, and the restored Sun Room in the garden is included with every wedding booking.
Balcombe Place has been run since 2018 by descendants of Lord and Lady Denman, with founding director Fo Martin, whose family has owned the Balcombe Estate since 1905. Grace Trehearne is the in-house wedding and events coordinator, and in-house chef Shrimpy Martin cooks the house meals served during a wedding stay. Drinks are served by the house team, and the wedding meal comes from one of the venue's recommended caterers.
